# App is hanging / stuck
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/app-stuck
If BeamXR Live hangs on startup, here are the most common fixes.
# Stuck on "Checking Social Connections" or "Waiting for Media"
## Clear BeamXR Live App Data
1. Open **Quest Settings**
2. Go to **General → Storage → Apps**
3. Scroll to **BeamXR Live**
4. Select **Clear App Data**
This logs you out and resets local settings. You’ll need to log in again.
## Check Microphone Permissions
BeamXR Live needs microphone access to initialize streams.
1. Update Permissions:
* Go to **Library → BeamXR Live (⋯) → App Permissions**
* Ensure **Microphone** is set to **Allowed**
2. Relaunch BeamXR Live
If you denied microphone access on first launch, uninstall and reinstall the app to be prompted again.
***
# Error: "Your session couldn’t be started"
If you see this error, it usually means BeamXR’s access to your social account has been revoked (for example, after a password reset or 2FA change).
## Fix — Refresh your social connections
1. In BeamXR Live, open **Settings → Connections**
2. Remove your existing connected platforms
3. Reconnect each platform and approve all requested permissions
4. Retry starting your stream or recording
If reconnecting doesn’t work, go to the social platform’s own security/settings page, revoke BeamXR access there, then try removing and reconnecting from the headset.
***
## Still stuck?
* Check you’re running the latest version of BeamXR Live (update from the Meta Quest Store)
* Restart your headset after changing permissions
* If issues continue, [get in touch on Discord](https://discord.gg/beamxr) and we'd be happy to help.
# I Can’t See My Game on Stream
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/game-not-visible
If your game isn't appearing on stream after going live, here are a few things to check:
## 1. Share Your Entire View
When you hit **Go Live**, a system dialogue will appear asking what you want to share.
👉 Make sure you select **"Entire View"**, not just a single app.
Selecting only the BeamXR Live window or another 2D app, won't allow you to capture the immersive app you want to stream.
***
## 2. Test Meta Avatar Streaming
Use the **“Go Live with Meta Avatar”** feature as a test.
* If your stream works using this method, it confirms that your social connections (Twitch/YouTube) are functioning properly.
* That means the issue is likely with screen capture, not account setup.
***
## 3. Check Your Social Account Status
Streaming permissions may be blocked due to account restrictions:
### Twitch
* Make sure your account is **in good standing**.
* If you’re banned or restricted, streaming will fail silently.
### YouTube
* You must have a **verified YouTube account** to stream.
* 📘 [Follow our YouTube streaming setup guide](../fix-issues/issues-with-youtube)

# Can’t Stream to YouTube
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/issues-with-youtube
If your stream isn’t starting or YouTube doesn’t appear to be working, it’s likely related to account verification.
## You Must Verify Your YouTube Account
To live stream on YouTube, your account must be verified.
👉 Start here: [Verify your YouTube account](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2474026?hl=en)
### How to verify:
1. Go to the [YouTube Verification Page](https://www.youtube.com/verify)
2. Choose your country and enter your phone number
3. Enter the 6-digit code sent via SMS or voice call
4. Wait up to **24 hours** for streaming to be enabled
***
## Check If Your Account Can Stream
You can check if your account is ready for streaming by visiting:\
👉 [youtube.com/features](https://www.youtube.com/features)
* Look under **Live Streaming**
* If it says **“Enabled”**, you're good to go
* If it says **“Eligible”**, it means you've started the process but it's not yet active
***
## BeamXR Live Will Warn You
If your YouTube account isn’t ready for streaming, BeamXR Live will show a **warning** when you try to go live.
Make sure you're fully verified and that live streaming is **enabled** on your account.

# Mic Issue
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/known-issues
Here are the current known issues in BeamXR Live. We’re working hard to improve the experience and will update this list as things change.
We've recently updated our mic to be stickier, you should be able to keep the microphone on your stream more consistently! You don't need seamless multitasking enabled for this to work.
## How The Mic Works
You can send your mic to either your stream or the game you are currently playing by pressing one of the two buttons.
When you select the "Mic in stream" button, the following will happen.
* BeamXR Live will try to request the microphone from your headset
* If another app is currently using the microphone, it will either:
* Successfully take the mic, muting you in the other app
* Or fail to obtain the mic, but silently try to re-obtain it in the background
* When you leave a game, or part of a game that uses voice chat, BeamXR Live will automatically regain the microphone
**Note: this is a limitation with the Quest OS**. The mic is exclusive and can only be used by **one** application at a time.
***
## Why Is My Mic Not Working?
Most games with voice chat will prevent BeamXR Live from using the mic when they are already using it, such as for voice chat.
It is recommended to start streaming ***before*** going into the game.
If you are in a game with voice chat, and you give the game the mic back, it is unlikely that you will be able to give the mic back to the stream. You will see a warning in the BeamXR Live app if this is the case. To fix this, simply return to an area of the game without voice chat. You can also just close the game and the mic will recover.
You can see which apps are currently using your mic in the Quest's quick settings panel.
***
## What we're doing to fix it
* **Pair External Mic (and hopefully camera)**\
We're working on adding a function for you to pair an external mic and (hopefully camera) to use in your stream. You keep your headset mic in-game, and use your external mic on stream.
* **OBS Workaround (Desktop Only)**\
We’re working on support for users who want to stream via **desktop using OBS**. You’ll be able to:
* Add your Quest headset as a **video and audio source** in OBS
* Use a **separate microphone** on your PC for commentary or voice-over
* Stream to Twitch, YouTube, or any custom RTMP destination
* **BeamXR InGame SDK**\
When developers implement our SDK:
* Mic issues are resolved completely
* Stream performance improves
* You unlock in-game camera angles and stream overlays
* 👉 [Tell your favourite game devs about it](https://docs.beamxr.io)
# Performance Issues
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/performance-issues
If your stream is stuttering, lagging, showing pixelation, or failing to start, there are a few common causes. BeamXR Live performance depends on several factors:
***
## **What do the stream health indicators mean?**
### **FPS (Headset Performance)**
We measure the frame rate of your stream before it’s uploaded.
* **Excellent** – Your headset is running smoothly and can handle the apps you have open.
* **OK** – Your stream is working, but performance could be better. Try the tips below to improve stability.
* **Poor** – Your headset is struggling. Close unused apps and try lowering your stream resolution (720p or below).
### **Network (Connection Quality)**
We automatically adjust your bitrate based on your internet connection.
* **Excellent** – Your connection is strong and your stream is uploading at high quality.
* **OK** – Your connection is stable, but not strong enough for 1080p. We’ll reduce your bitrate to keep things smooth — for best results, stream at 720p or lower.
* **Poor** – Your connection isn’t fast enough for a stable stream. Try lowering your resolution further or improving your Wi-Fi signal.
***
# Tips To Improve Performance
## 1. Close Other Apps
The Quest headset is optimised for running games first. When streaming, running additional apps such as browsers, Spotify, or calls can impact performance.
We recommend only having your game and BeamXR Live open at the same time.
***
## 2. Stream Quality Settings
If you’re still having performance issues, reduce your stream resolution.
On Quest 2 in particular, 720p or lower is more stable and uses fewer resources.
1080p streaming is currently experimental and may cause stuttering or dropped frames.
***
## 3. Seamless Multitasking
Seamless Multitasking is a Meta experimental feature that can increase CPU usage.
Try disabling it in your Quest **Settings > Experimental** or hide the taskbar while streaming to reduce load.
***
## 4. Battery Level
When your headset battery is low, performance may be reduced to conserve power.
We recommend streaming with your headset plugged in or at least above 50% charge.
***
## 5. Network Quality
If your headset performance feels fine but your stream looks poor, your internet connection may be the cause.
Ensure you have a strong, stable Wi-Fi signal and sufficient upload speed for streaming.
Poor Wi-Fi signal or network congestion can cause dropped frames, buffering, or failed streams.
***
## Other Tips
* Close any unnecessary background apps before launching BeamXR Live.
* Restart your headset to free up memory if performance has degraded over time.
* Avoid streaming immediately after powering on — wait a minute to let the system settle.
***

# YouTube Rate Limit Incident
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/fix-issues/rate-limit
Login and YouTube streaming may fail due to YouTube API rate limits. Workarounds and status.
YouTube rate limits are causing login/YouTube-stream issues for some users. We’re working with Google on a fix.
*Last updated: 10 Aug 2025 09.17 (BST).*
### What’s happening
YouTube is rate-limiting our API usage. If your BeamXR account is linked to YouTube, you may be **unable to log in** or **start a YouTube stream**.
### Who’s affected
* Users who have **YouTube connected** in BeamXR Live.
* Twitch-only users are **not affected**.
### Why this is happening
We use YouTube’s APIs to create and manage streams on your behalf. We had more sign-ups than expected (🎉), which temporarily pushed us over our initial quota.
### Our fix
We’re working with Google to **increase our API limits**. Once approved, the issue will resolve automatically—no app update required.
### Workaround (recommended)
If you want to stream right now:
1. Open **BeamXR Live → Settings**
2. Under **Connections**, go to \*\*YouTube. \*\*Hit the the 3 dotsand hit **Disconnect**
3. Stream to **Twitch** (or reconnect YouTube after we’ve lifted the limits)
You can reconnect YouTube later from the same menu.
### Status updates
We’ll update this page as soon as the quota increase is live.
# Your First Stream

# How to Go Live with RTMP
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/getting-started/rtmp-tiktok
Stream from BeamXR Live to TikTok, Restream, or any RTMP-compatible platform using a server URL and stream key.
## 1. Generic RTMP Setup
1. **Open BeamXR Live on your headset**
* Launch BeamXR Live, start a stream.
* For social source select **RTMP**.
2. **Get your RTMP details from your platform**
* Grab your stream details from your platform source.
* Paste the **RTMP Server URL** and **Stream Key** into BeamXR Live.
3. **Enter details in BeamXR Live**
* Back in your headset, paste the Server URL and Stream Key into the RTMP fields.
4. **Go Live**
* Select **Go Live** in BeamXR Live to start streaming directly from your headset.
***
## 2. Going Live on TikTok
**Important: Not every TikTok account has RTMP access.**
* TikTok usually requires at least **1,000 followers** and that you are **18+ years old**.
* Having TikTok Live access **does not** always mean you’ll have a **stream key**.
### Check if your account has RTMP access
1. Go to [livecenter.tiktok.com](https://livecenter.tiktok.com).
2. On the left-hand menu:
* If you see a **“Go Live”** button, your account has RTMP access.
* If you don’t see it, your account doesn’t currently have RTMP keys.
### Start streaming with BeamXR Live
1. In a browser, go to [livecenter.tiktok.com](https://livecenter.tiktok.com).
2. Click **Go Live** in the left-hand menu.
3. Enter your **stream category** and **title**.
4. Copy the **RTMP Server URL** and **Stream Key**.
* TikTok issues a **new key every session** – copy a fresh one before you go live.
5. In BeamXR Live on your headset, paste the Server URL and Stream Key.
6. Press **Go Live** to start streaming directly to TikTok.
Just a heads up:**BeamXR can’t unlock TikTok Live or Stream Key access** — that’s something TikTok provides directly.
***
## 3. Going Live with Restream (including TikTok)
A possible workaround using ReStream can enable you to go live on TikTok directly from your headset.
1. Create a **free account** at [Restream.io](https://restream.io).
2. Connect your social plaforms in the Restream dashboard.
* When connecting TikTok, approval can take up to **a day** and is not always guaranteed.
3. Create a new **RTMP stream** in Restream.
* Set your **stream title** and details.
4. Copy the **RTMP Server URL** and **Stream Key** from Restream.
5. Paste these into BeamXR Live on your headset.
6. Press **Go Live** – Restream will relay your stream to all the connected platforms.
Heads up: Not all TikTok accounts will work with Restream. Since this is managed by Restream/TikTok, we’re unable to provide support with account setup.
# Connecting Social Accounts
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/getting-started/social-connections
BeamXR Live supports streaming to **Twitch** and **YouTube**. Here's how to connect your accounts.
## Connect Twitch
You can connect your Twitch account during setup or any time later from the **Settings** menu.
1. In the BeamXR Live app, go to **Settings** and tap **Connect** next to Twitch.
2. This will open the **browser on your Quest**.
3. **Log into your Twitch account** and approve access for BeamXR.
4. You’ll be redirected to a confirmation page — once it says the connection is complete, you're good to go.
5. Return to BeamXR Live — Twitch will now show as **connected**, and you can close the browser.
***
## Connect YouTube
The process is the same for YouTube:
1. In **Settings**, tap **Connect** next to YouTube.
2. The Quest browser will open.
3. **Log into your YouTube (Google) account** and approve access.
4. You’ll be redirected to a success page.
5. Back in BeamXR Live, you’ll see YouTube is now connected.
If you're having trouble connecting YouTube, check out guidance here:\

## More Platforms Coming Soon
We're working on support for more platforms — including **custom RTMP**, **TikTok**, and others.
If there’s a platform you'd like us to support, let us know in the 💬 [#💡feature-discussion](https://discord.gg/beamxr) channel on Discord.
Your feedback helps us prioritise what to build next!
# Streaming Settings
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/getting-started/streaming-settings
Here’s how to customise your stream settings in BeamXR Live — from titles and quality to categories and platform choice.
## Game Category
You can choose a game category so your stream is properly attributed on Twitch or YouTube.
* We currently use **IGDB** to list VR game titles.
* If a game is missing, let us know on [Discord](https://discord.gg/beamxr).
You can also **submit new games to IGDB** by following their guide: [How to contribute to IGDB](https://github.com/twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines/wiki/How-IGDB-works)
We're also working on adding **non-game categories** like *Just Chatting* soon.
***
## Stream Title
* You can set your stream title to anything you like.
* Currently, we **automatically add "BeamXR Live"** to the title and include a watermark.
* A **Pro tier** will soon allow you to **remove branding** and unlock advanced customisation.
We're also working on **more YouTube-specific controls** like thumbnails and privacy settings.
Track the feature’s progress [in our Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1224665935001157643/1399397642265428008)
***
## Stream Quality
If you’re having performance issues, try switching to 720p.
You can choose between:
* **720p (HD)** – Recommended for **Quest 2** or more demanding games.
* **1080p (Full HD)** – For higher-end headsets and stronger bandwidth.
If you’ve enabled **Seamless Multitasking** (in Experimental Features on your Quest), this may affect performance. Try disabling it if streaming becomes unstable.
***
## Platform Selection
Choose whether to stream to **Twitch** or **YouTube**.
More platforms and **custom RTMP support** are on the way — stay tuned!
***
## Saving Your Defaults
To save your go-to streaming settings:
1. Tap the **cog icon** in the BeamXR Live navigation menu
2. Adjust your preferences
3. They’ll be saved for future streams automatically

# Managing App Permissions on Quest
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/permissions/managing-permissions-on-quest
How to manage your permissions on quest.
BeamXR Live needs certain permissions to stream and record your gameplay — like access to your microphone, camera, and display.
If something isn’t working (e.g. no mic audio or black screen), it’s worth checking your app permissions.
***
## How to Check App Permissions
1. On your Quest headset, open **Settings**
2. Go to **Apps > Permissions**
3. Find and select **BeamXR Live**
4. Review the following permissions:
* **Microphone** – should be **enabled**
* **Camera** – should be **enabled** (for passthrough / face tracking)
* **Display Capture / Screen Recording** – should be **enabled**
* **Network / Internet** – typically enabled by default
***
## Resetting Permissions
If something seems off or BeamXR Live isn't behaving properly:
1. Go to **Settings > Apps > BeamXR Live**
2. Choose **Clear App Permissions**
3. Relaunch the app — it will ask you to re-grant any required permissions
***
## Common Fixes
* If your **mic isn’t working**, check the Microphone permission is enabled
* If your **stream shows a black screen**, check Display Capture is enabled and you're sharing the **Entire View**
* If **face tracking or passthrough** isn't working, ensure Camera access is on

# Why BeamXR Live Requests Permissions
Source: https://help.beamxr.io/live/permissions/why-we-need-permissions
BeamXR Live needs a few system permissions to function properly. Here’s a breakdown of what we request and why:
### `android.permission.INTERNET`
Used to stream your gameplay to Twitch, YouTube, or a private link, and to connect to your BeamXR account.
***
### `android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO`
Lets us capture your microphone so your voice can be included in the stream.
***
### `android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE`
Keeps BeamXR Live running in the background (e.g. while you’re in-game) without being shut down by the system.
***
### `android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION`
Allows BeamXR to capture your VR display — this is how your gameplay gets streamed.
***
### `android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK`
Reserved for future features that allow **local video playback** inside the app.
***
### `android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE`
Required to access your microphone while the app is running as a foreground service (like during a live stream), following newer Android/Quest policies.
***
### `android.permission.CAMERA`
